A consumer value approach to a holistic understanding of the winery experience

Abstract: Purpose The present study is part of a joint effort to gain a holistic understanding of the consumption experience. This paper aims to understand the essence of the winery experience through a better characterisation of the latter because of the consumer value approach and to define the main cultural differences between the Old World and the New World in this respect. “…The winery cellar door experience depends on "complex interactions of visitors and the service staff, the wine product, the cellar door setting, winery management systems, and other winery attributes" (Carlsen and Boksberger, 2015, p. 132). In the field of tourism, the wine tourism experience has been extensively discussed (Bruwer and Rueger-Muck, 2018;Massa and Bede, 2018;Santos et al, 2019;Stergiou, 2018). The literature review undertaken in the study revealed two conceptual approaches to the wine tourism experience.…”

“…These platforms represent a relevant empirical research setting for our study as they have allowed travellers who planned to visit Tunisia after June 25th to share their experiences, their travel decision and to ask for advice. As it was difficult to collect interviews directly from travellers who decided to change their travel plans during this period, a Netnography method appears to be the most appropriate alternative to collect data during the judgement phase of the decision process (Massa and Bédé, 2018). This method is considered as “faster, simpler and less expensive than traditional ethnography and more naturalistic, objective and unobtrusive than focus groups or interviews” (Thanh and Kirova, 2018, p. 33 cited in (Massa and Bédé, 2018).…”

In this study, this approach was used according to the four big stages recommended by Sayarh (2013): Introspection phase: the collection of data were conducted amongst review websites and online communities.…”

“…We can draw lessons from other beverage categories. Mintel’s research found that 39 per cent of craft beer drinkers affirm that they are influenced to purchase a craft beer if it has a personality to which they can relate (Mintel, 2013). This appears to be consistent with Taplin (2016, p. 11) who documented how Napa was able to develop an iconic wine, “exclusivity, scrupulous attention to production detail plus a sense of craftsmanship were crucial to the emotional and aesthetic appeal that they sought to nurture – a story that invoked heritage in the making”.…”
