A Context‐Aware Tour Guide: User Implications

The use of Voronoi diagram has traditionally been applied to computational geometry and multimedia problems. In this paper, we will show how Voronoi diagram can be applied to spatial query processing, and in particular to Reverse Nearest Neighbor (RNN) queries. Spatial and geographical query processing, in general, and RNN in particular, are becoming more important, as online maps are now widely available. In this paper, using the concept of Voronoi diagram, we classify RNN into four types depending on whether the query point and the interest objects are the generator points of the Voronoi Polygon or not. Our approach is based on manipulating Network Voronoi Diagram properties and applying a progressive incremental network expansion for finding the polygon inner network distances required to solve RNN queries. Our experimentation results show that our approaches have good response times in answering RNN queries.

One of the most frequent queries in spatial and mobile databases is range search, which is originated from the construction of R-tree that limits the spatial database application to Euclidean distance. Nowadays, Geographic Information System (GIS) demands the applications to be practicable for factual distance, normally identified as network distance. Even though some algorithms are engaged in this area, network distance range search is still a time consuming and storage space occupation task. In this paper, we propose a novel approach which is based on Network Voronoi Diagram that is diffusely used in geometrical analysis. We are looking into how to improve the performance of range search query processing using Network Voronoi Diagram.

With the development of communication and ubiquitous computing technologies, context-aware services, which acquire contextual information of users and environment, have become critical applications providing customization in mobile commerce. Meanwhile, tourism has attracted increasing attention as a high value-added service and a hot academic topic. However, the research on how to provide tour services based on context-aware services is in fact still at an early stage, limited to concept elaboration, service framework discussion, prototype system development etc. In this paper, we summarized the previous researches on context-aware services to establish the research foundation, put forward a way of analyzing a tour planning problem with a modified model of Traveling Salesman Problem (TSP) and Vehicle Routing Problem (VRP), and we applied an innovated Resource Constrain Project Scheduling Problem (RCPSP) mathematical model to solve the tour planning problem based on context information. The simulation under branch and bound algorithm evaluated the validity of our solution.
