A cross-sectional study on the associations of insulin resistance with sex hormone, abnormal lipid metabolism in T2DM and IGT patients

Abstract: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is a long-term metabolic disorder. It is characterized by hyperglycemia, insulin resistance (IR), and relative impairment in insulin secretion. IR plays a major role in the pathogenesis of T2DM. Many previous studies have investigated the relationship between estrogen, androgen, and obesity, but few focused on the relationship between sex hormones, abnormal lipid metabolism, and IR. The goal for the present study was to identify the association of IR with sex hormone, abnormal l… Show more

“…In this study, rats with STZ-induced type 2 diabetes were used to explore the mechanism of 1,25(OH)2D3 in improving their hepatic insulin resistance. A study by Wang et al showed that lowering the level of insulin resistance could effectively improve lipid disorders and glucose tolerance in patients with type 2 diabetes [15]. In the present study, treatment with 1,25(OH)2D3 was found to reduce fasting blood glucose and increase the blood insulin levels in diabetic rats [16].…”

“…HOMA-IR index is the most well-known method that has been proposed for determining IR ( Baghbani-Oskouei et al, 2019 ). The fasting insulin level and HOMA-IR were often used to estimate IR in clinical studies ( Wang et al, 2017 ). The present findings suggested that AOS treatment decreased the HOMA-IR index in the model group.…”

“…This dietary profile with high intakes of simple sugars and high-glycemic index products could also be harmful; they could cause the aforementioned IR, which is associated with the more frequently observed hyperinsulinemia, lower glucose tolerance and increased risk of diabetes [ 51 , 57 ].
