A current‐mode automatic frequency tuning system for filters with current mirrors

Abstract: SUMMARYA new current-mode automatic frequency tuning system is proposed in this paper. The system is based on the master-slave technique and is suitable for integrated current-mode filters based on current mirrors. Automatic control is accomplished by controlling the bias current of the current mirrors employed in the master and slave filters. The proposed scheme has been applied in the leapfrog and wave filters and the corresponding simulation results confirm its validity.

“…The VTC circuit ensures a near-linear bias current because current-controlled delay elements are known to be less sensitive to supply voltage variation, thereby achieving better frequency response and accuracy in low voltage applications [25]. Many design considerations and applications of the VTC can be found in [26][27][28]. The schematic of the VTC is shown in Figure 10.…”

“…The synthesis of analog circuit based on current-mode technique has been gained significant attention, because current-mode circuit offers certain advantages such as greater linearity, simple structure, better accuracy, higherfrequency operation and larger dynamic range compared with op-amps-based circuits [2]- [3]. To make the current mode circuit cascading without the use of any additional buffer, the input impedance should be low and the output impedance should be high.…”

“…Continuous transconductance tuning is often required to achieve programmable filter characteristics and/or to compensate for process, temperature and aging variations using automatic tuning techniques . Unfortunately, continuous tuning of the resistance value is not possible with a passive resistor.…”
