In both Neottiella (Rossen and Westergaard, 1966) and Sordaria (Bell and Therrien, 1977) premeiotic DNA synthesis occurs in the prefusion nuclei before it occurs in the nuclei which contribute to the next crozier. Thus, in meiosis in these organisms, crozier formation continues over a period of time, yielding developing asci at various times.…”
