A Data Acquisition and Document Oriented Storage Methodology for ANT+ Protocol Sensors in Real-Time Web

Abstract: Lacking better methodology is one main factor that prevents remote healthcare application development using wearable sensors. Sensor devices and data heterogeneity are two additional factors. Integrating devices is a challenge due to lack of interoperability between APIs, protocols and their data formats, despite they relate to same device type. ANT+, a proprietary protocol, strengthens the goals for Internet of Things (IoT) by supporting device interoperability. Data diversity demands robust techniques during… Show more

“…To add to this, all the devices are manufactured by thousands of different manufacturers with their own proprietary standards. To mention a few the range of devices in CPS-SB may be based on the traditional Wi-Fi technologies/3G/4G cellular communications to more recently seen ANT+ standard [17], Bluetooth SMART, NFC, ZigBee, Z-Wave, ZigBee, and WirelessHart, LoRa, SIGFOX etc.…”

“…Smart wearables protocols and technologies —The most common technologies that allow smart wearable devices to transfer data to other devices, and to talk to each other are BLE and ANT+, as shown in Figure . Although ANT+ has a longer battery life, BLE is currently the protocol of choice in the smart wearable industry because of its simplicity and low energy consumption . BLE is poised to continue to play an important role in the future low‐power smart wearable IoT devices.…”
