A decision-based pre-emptive fair scheduling strategy to process cloud computing work-flows for sustainable enterprise management

Abstract: In cloud computing, clients comply a policy of pay-as-you go, i.e., they only pay for the resources they use. So, the processing power of the clouds has to be optimised to reduce the cost at client's side. Using the resources optimally ensures enterprise sustainability of cloud service providers. Workflow is a set of tasks that are interdependent on each other. Scheduling these workflows is one of the most important challenges to optimally utilise the cloud resources and ensure better quality of service (QoS) … Show more

“…It has led to computing being transformed to a model comprising services that are commoditised and delivered in a manner similar to traditional public utilities which stimulates a new paradigm -Cloud Computing. The emergence of this phenomenon fundamentally changed the way information systems are developed, deployed, scaled, supported, and paid for [2]. It has attracted many companies to migrate existing systems due to their promised advantages, particularly the reduction of capital expenses and the virtually infinite resource capacity that enhances businesses' agility [3].…”

“…Conducting an evaluation of the benefits, risks and costs is also far from straightforward [14]. Further, the shift towards the cloud is likely to result in considerable changes in how IT services are developed, deployed, supported, and paid for [15]. This has led to the need for organisational and socio-technical factors to be taken into account during the decision making process [14].…”

“…By utilising the SaaS, the customers may eliminate the cost of having an application and improve the value on return on investment (ROI). This is one of the reasons why SaaS becomes a popular option nowadays (Babu et al, 2014;Gupta, 2013;Lindner et al, 2010;Ratnam and Dominic, 2014), including for the business-to-business (B2B) purposes (Petrescu, 2012).…”
