The capabilities of the ultra-relativistic quantum molecular dynamics (UrQMD) model in describing antiproton-nucleus collisions are presented. The model provides a good description of the experimental data on multiplicities, transverse momentum distributions and rapidity distributions in antiprotonnucleus collisions. Special emphasis is put on the comparison of strange particles in reactions with nuclear targets ranging from 7 Li, 12 C, 32 S, 64 Cu to 131 Xe because of the important role of strangeness for the exploration of hypernuclei at PANDA-FAIR. The productions of the double strange baryons − and ¯ + , which may be used to produce double hypernuclei, are predicted in this work for the reactions p + 24 Mg, 64 Cu and 197 Au.
