Abstract: This paper analyses the role of Design in the development of smart and interactive products for the consumer market, a context in which technology is the leading component. The outcomes are often tech gadgets lacking meaningful value for users and thanks to the democratization of production methods and crowdfunding platforms their diffusion is exponential. By presenting the case study of Thingk-a company derived from a crowdfunded project-this paper highlights how the user feedback gathered during crowdfunding… Show more

“…In order to make the management of these IoTs simple and ensure their seamless integration into the business process, a new type of innovation management framework is required. [5] further stated that technological advancements and the business applications of IoT are rapidly increasing, hence necessitating human/user-centered, technically feasible, financially viable, and marketable products that can create value for both customers and entrepreneurs. Thus, now the focus is not just on innovation, but also on the implementation of innovation.…”

“…Moreover, the emergence of concepts like IoT and Industry 5.0 poses new opportunities and challenges for business. Although more implementable, practical, useful, and easy to understand, so that firms can get the maximum benefits out of it and cope with the challenges of globalization and technological advancement, e.g., IoT and Industry 5.0 [5,6,10,20,21]. The main aim and objective of the study is to present an innovation management framework that focuses on both customer and entrepreneurial value through user/human-centered products and is perfectly intermingled with the corporate strategy and "routine logic" of the firm.…”

“…Many authors, indeed, agree on the importance of using physical objects and physical interfaces instead of delegating functions to screens, displays and smartphones through apps (digital interfaces). When a digital and immaterial counterpart augments tangible objects, the value of the physical part must be clarified and highlighted (Vitali, Arquilla& Tolino, 2017). Schurig and Thomas (2017) predict that:…”

“…Slab! is a kitchen scale intended to result into aesthetical user experience where the digital and physical spheres overlap (Vitali et al, 2017). The appearance of the scale (Figure 2) is essential and natural -high quality wood, soft and smooth outline -, but its paramount feature is that it changes, unveiling its functions, when it comes into contact with the user.…”

“…As a result, what we are already partly witnessing and mainly envisioning, supported by the opportunities and potentialities of the Internet of Things (IoT) and the Internet of Everything (Evans, 2011(Evans, , 2012, is the presence of interconnected (eco)systems in which smart, sensory and intel-ligent objects communicate among themselves, as well as with people (Vitali et al, 2017).…”
