“…For the enhancement of affective strength, the results show the cognitive-verbal approach contributed more than did the Gestalt-play approach, even though the effect difference between the two methods was not statistically significant (see Table 2). This finding is consistent with those of previous studies (Ettelson, 2003;Hoffman, 2000) that revealed the effectiveness of cognitive therapy in regulating adolescents' affective issues. Intriguingly, the affective-and-relationship-oriented Gestalt-play approach made weaker impacts on affective enhancement than did the cognitive-verbal approach.…”

“…Researchers have adapted the PCT protocol for an adolescent population (PCT-A; Hoffman & Mattis, 2000). PCT-A maintains the key principles of the adult protocol, with modifications to increase its developmental sensitivity, such as more simple and concise language.…”

“…The therapist assigned to a given case administered the PCT-A protocol (Hoffman & Mattis, 2000) which consisted of psychoeducation about the nature of panic, cognitive restructuring of panic-related cognitions, and interoceptive and in-vivo exposures administered in the office and practiced by the adolescent in his=her home environment. A brief description of this protocol is detailed in Hoffman and Mattis.…”

“…PCT is a manualized treatment approach that addresses the cognitive, behavioral, and physiological aspects of anxiety with specific interventions aimed at each of these components of the disorder. Recognizing its efficacy for adult panic sufferers as well as preliminary empirical support for CBT as an effective treatment for PD in adolescence (Ollendick, 1995), Hoffman and Mattis (2000) developed an age-appropriate adaptation of PCT for panic disorder in this population (PCT-A). A randomized controlled trial examining the efficacy of PCT-A has been completed at our clinical research center and there is preliminary evidence of its efficacy for adolescents aged 14 to 17 (Mattis & Pincus, 2003;Pincus, May, Whitton, Mattis, & Barlow, 2010).…”
