A dielectric corrugated feed horn antenna for satellite communication applications

Abstract: In this study, a dielectric corrugated antenna, as being a feed horn antenna of the reflector antenna for satellite communication applications, is analyzed. The structure consists of a conical dielectric corrugated antenna terminated with a conductor hyperbolic (convex) plate. The antenna system provides a Gaussian beam within wide frequency bandwidth with its dielectric structure. The antenna is simulated and tested for its return loss and radiation performances, and the satisfactory results are obtained for … Show more

“…A number of different types of SIW cavity backed CP antennas have been presented in the past [2][3][4][5][6][7], which can be classified into two types: (a) patch antennas (b) slot antennas. In [2], a perturbed circular patch backed by cavity presented used dual resonant modes along with asymmetric inductive diaphragm embedded in SIW feeding part to improve the bandwidth.…”

“…In [2], a perturbed circular patch backed by cavity presented used dual resonant modes along with asymmetric inductive diaphragm embedded in SIW feeding part to improve the bandwidth. A modified patch surrounded by a circular SIW cavity fed by a coax cables presented in [3] demonstrated low cost and high gain. A single grounded coplanar waveguide excited SIW cavity presented in [4] combines two orthogonal cavity modes to achieve bandwidth enhancement.…”

“…Corrugated conical horns are extensively used as the feeds in the Cassegrain antennas for both satellite earth stations and telescopes . The increasing application of THz Technology for the imaging systems has created a research demand for the horn antennas with a low VSWR, a main lobe with symmetrical beamwidth, and low cross‐polarization levels within the bandwidth where the slots are one‐quarter wavelength deep.…”
