A direct Jacobian total Lagrangian explicit dynamics finite element algorithm for real‐time simulation of hyperelastic materials

Abstract: This article presents a novel direct Jacobian total Lagrangian explicit dynamics (DJ-TLED) finite element algorithm for real-time nonlinear mechanics simulation. The nodal force contributions are expressed using only the Jacobian operator, instead of the deformation gradient tensor and finite deformation tensor, for fewer computational operations at run-time. Owing to this proposed Jacobian formulation, novel expressions are developed for strain invariants and constant components, which are also based on the J… Show more

“…However, these results still cannot be applied during real-time surgeries. As future research lines, new procedures for SFG recovery can be investigated [44,45], and more computational elements can be applied depending on the given study object. For clinical applications, a model's complexity significantly impacts the computational time and is a factor that reduces certainty in predictive performance depending on the clinical application.…”

“…These models were classified into three categories: the heuristic modeling methodology, continuummechanical methodology and other methodologies. Zhang [47] reported a novel algorithm for total Lagrangian explicit dynamics (TLED) FE using a direct Jacobian formulation applied to brain-shift non-rigid registration in craniotomy. We are working on using the same platform for surgery, in this case it will be necessary to incorporate the biomechanics of the brain/skull base and real-time surgical simulation for AR.…”

“…The friction between the teeth belongs to metal friction, and the friction coefficient is taken as 0.1. Between the teeth and the cloth belt, due to the different degrees of softness and hardness of the two materials, the friction coefficient is set to a larger value of 0.2 [9][10].…”
