A dual-band circularly polarized antenna with aid of dual cylindrical dielectric resonator blocks

Abstract: In this communication, a dielectric resonator based circularly polarized antenna is designed and investigated. A modified aperture is used to excite dual cylindrical dielectric resonator (CDR) blocks. Two important characteristics of the proposed radiator that makes it all the more attractive are as follows: (i) excitation of dual radiating modes that is, HEM11δ and TE01δ mode in cylindrical DR along with the support of dual‐band circularly polarized (CP) waves; (ii) arrangements of dual CDR blocks to reduce t… Show more

“…At 5.09 GHz, feed acts like a vertically placed magnetic dipole [20] and TE 01 δ mode is generated. The mathematical formula to calculate TE 01 δ mode in DRA [21] is given bywhere, where d = D /2 represents the radius of CDRA. H eff and ɛ dr , eff are the effective height and effective permittivity of the proposed radiator.…”

“…This radiator provides a percentage bandwidth of 6.3% and 5.26%, respectively. 9 Tong et al proposed differently inserted fed DRA with dual-band CP features. In the aforementioned antenna design, both the operating bands are individually controlled with the assistance of DRA and stripline.…”

“…For that purpose, different techniques have been proposed by altering the shape of DR [4][5][6] and modifying the feeding mechanism. [7][8][9] Fang et al proposed a grooved rectangular DRA (RDRA) for dual-band CP application. By trimming the corner of RDRA by 45 , authors were able to achieve CP waves in dualfrequency ranges, i.e., 1.53-1.63 and 2.4-2.49 GHz, respectively.…”

“…In recent years, dielectric resonator antennas (DRAs) have received growing attention, due to their advantages such as flexible design, high radiation efficiency, and simple excitation . Compared to linearly polarized antennas, circularly polarized (CP) antennas have advantages of restraining multipath fading and polarization mismatch .…”
