A Dual-Band Multiple Input Multiple Output Frequency Agile Antenna for GPSL1/Wi-Fi/WLAN2400/LTE Applications

Abstract: A novel dual-band, single element multiple input multiple output (MIMO) dielectric resonator antenna (DRA) with a modest frequency tuning ability is presented in this communication. The proposed antenna operates at GPS L1/Bluetooth/Wi-Fi/LTE2500/WLAN2400 frequency bands. A single dielectric resonator element is fed by two coaxial probes to excite the orthogonal modes. A couple of slots are introduced on the ground plane to improve the isolation between antenna ports. The slots also serve the purpose of reconfi… Show more

“…This implies that an antenna is supposed to cover a subset of bands at any given instant and subsequently to cover a different subset. Therefore, the frequency reconfigurable antennas have wide applicability and are able to provide multiband coverage by altering their resonance frequency and/or the impedance bandwidth [3,4].…”

“…MIMO DRAs are single radiator [134,135] and multi-radiator [136] antenna structures. The main limitation of a MIMO DRA with multi-radiators is that it compromises with the increased size of the antenna.…”

“…Despite of many benefits of DRAs, only a few FR MIMO designs are reported in literature. 5,6 The reported designs however, are relatively large in size, which makes their integration in small devices impractical.…”

“…The frequency reconfigurable (FR) DRAs offer the desirable advantages of multiband coverage while simultaneously ensuring the high gain and better radiation efficiency. Despite of many benefits of DRAs, only a few FR MIMO designs are reported in literature 5,6 . The reported designs however, are relatively large in size, which makes their integration in small devices impractical.…”
