Abstract:For the first time, a dual photoredox and titanocene catalyzed methodology for the regioselective access to α‐vinyl‐ß‐hydroxy esters towards aldehyde allylation with 4‐bromobut‐2‐enoate is reported. The protocol is based on the Barbier‐type properties of the inexpensive and available Cp2TiCl2 in catalytic amount (5 mol%). The developed mild reaction conditions gave access to a library of differently functionalized α‐vinyl‐ß‐hydroxy esters in moderate diastereoselectivity, employing the commercially available e… Show more
“…However, recent progress in the development of photoinduced transition metal catalysis has enabled the use of stable, readily available amines as reductants (Figure b). Titanium, cobalt, nickel, and chromium catalysts have so far been applied to photoinduced reductive allylation in combination with photoredox catalysts. Even so, these catalytic systems have been used mainly for the allylation of aldehydes, and only a few examples of the allylation of ketones have been reported to date .…”
A unique process for the photoinduced platinum-catalyzed reductive allylation of α-diketones with allylic carbonates has been developed. This allylation reaction was found to proceed selectively at the more electron-deficient carbonyl group of the diketone to afford an αketo homoallylic alcohol. Such products could be further derivatized by transformation of the remaining carbonyl group. A mechanistic investigation suggests that a ketyl radical generated in response to photoirradiation reacts with a (π-allyl)platinum complex to form a C−C bond.

Titanium, as an important transition-metal, has garnered extensive attention in both industry and academia due to its excellent mechanical properties, corrosion resistance, and unique reactivity in organic synthesis. In the...
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
