A dynamic reactive power reserve optimization method to enhance transient voltage stability

Abstract: Dynamic reactive power reserve of power system is vital to improve transient voltage security. A novel definition of reactive power reserve considering transient voltage security in transient procession is proposed. Participation factor to evaluate reactive power reserve's contribution to transient voltage stability is computed through trajectory sensitivity method. Then an optimization model to enhance transient voltage stability is built and a solving algorithm is proposed. Based on an analysis of the transi… Show more

“…Therefore, though calculation of the transient voltage feature in time domain is more time consuming, the dynamic-related index is better to reflect the demands for DVC. In recent research works, trajectory sensitivity index (TSI) about voltage dip, low-voltage duration [14] dV/dQ [15] etc. are commonly adopted dynamic-related indices.…”

“…Several research works have been carried out to relate the LSPV system with the overall DVAr of the network. Research efforts in [10][11][12] have analyzed optimal reserve and location of DVAr resources to enhance the dynamic voltage stability of the grid, which is also known as short-term voltage stability.…”

“…Zhao et al proposed an online reactive power reserve optimization model considering different operating conditions with HVDC systems, where sensitivity analyses were applied. In Qi et al, the trajectory sensitivity method was used to evaluate dynamic reactive power reserve, which is defined as the difference between the upper limit and the current output of reactive power. The impact of static synchronous compensator was discussed in Zhou et al, when connected to receiving systems.…”
