“…It was achieved by using a computer-controlled system with two temperature sensors (DS18B20) and a heating element (600 W) hanging in each mesocosm. Water temperatures in the heated mesocosms were elevated +4.5°C based on the mean temperatures in the ambient mesocosms (Wang, Xu, et al, 2020). The biomass and density of the fish in the mesocosms (about 340 kg/ha) are within the range found in lakes of this region (Gao et al, 2014), but can also be found in ponds and lakes of other regions in the world (Vilizzi et al, 2015).…”

“…All water added to the experimental mesocosms was filtered through a 20 mm mesh. We fixed temperature sensors (DS18B20, Maxim IC, Dallas, TX, USA) and heating units (A10-3, Xin Shao Guangzhou, China) to each polyethylene mesocosms to monitor the temperature of all treatments in real time [ 33 ]. All mesocosms were left for colonization under ambient conditions for two months (November–December 2018) before the start of the experiment.…”

“…Other designs offered inexpensive materials and open-source hardware (Arduino) to control heating elements and CO 2 injection systems [18] . They allow real-time monitoring and constant manipulation of water temperature by fully-automated systems, comprising temperature (micro-) controller in combination with installed heating elements and (digital) temperature sensors [19] , [20] , [21] , or heat exchange pipes fed by hot water tanks combined with a differential thermocouple [22] , respectively. Additional improvements in aquatic experimental research, particularly considering spatial and temporal aspects, are for instance provided by mesocosm infrastructures [23] equipped with autonomous and high frequency measuring systems.…”
