Objective: To understand the child/adolescent’s perception of the disabled sibling. Method: Qualitative research, with a phenomenological approach, conducted between 2018 and 2019, in a municipality in the south of Brazil, with 20 children/adolescents who are siblings of people with disabilities, through a phenomenological interview. Respecting ethical precepts, hermeneutics was used for interpretation. Results: The child/adolescent perceives his/her disabled sibling as a normal person, given his/her behavior, way of being and intellectual capacity. Still, it understands him as a special being, who has limitations regarding learning, but does not see him as different, thus, unlinks the idea of disability associated with the disease/abnormality. Final considerations: The perception of the disabled sibling occurs within the perception of normality. The child identifies his sibling’s lower learning capacitor a way that is unique to him, a fact that does not condition him to be seen as abnormal, defining his being-in-the-world as a special way of existing.

Phenomenology in nursing research: reflection based on Heidegger’s hermeneutics

Objective: To reflect on the use of phenomenological analysis in nursing research through the hermeneutical circle of Martin Heidegger. Method: Theoretical reflection based on Martin Heidegger’s concepts through literature review. Results: Phenomenology is a philosophical referential to address lived phenomena; Heidegger emphasizes the essence of being in the world bound in experiences, the hermeneutical circle is a methodological referential of analysis to understand the world lived by the being through a pre-understanding; an understanding and an interpretation to reveal the essence of the phenomenon. Conclusions and implications for practice: Nursing can make use the hermeneutic circle to understand, from a philosophical view, the phenomena in the language of those who experience them, to unveil them and to understand the subjectivity of care.

El propósito de esta investigación fue comprender la elaboración del duelo en profesionales de salud mental sobrevivientes de suicidio, a través de tres profesionales dedicados a la psicología. Estos profesionales fueron así seleccionados partiendo de lo establecido por Pérez (2005), que define a los “sobrevivientes” como los allegados al fallecido por suicidio, incluyendo allí a los terapeutas. Para la recopilación de datos se utilizó como técnica la entrevista fenomenológica, lo que dio lugar al proceso de análisis de datos empleando la categorización y posterior interpretación. Este proceso derivó en cuatro categorías sobre las dificultades de los especialistas para la aproximación al duelo cuando se da en el curso de su ejercicio profesional, confluyendo en ello significantes como culpa, estigma asociado al suicidio, dificultades para aproximarse a la muerte. Estos acercamientos abren la mirada a la importancia de generar espacios seguros para los profesionales de salud mental, para explorar y elaborar un duelo ético de esta envergadura.
