A Fast-Multi-Channel Sub-Millikelvin Precision Resistance Thermometer Readout Based on the Round-Robin Structure

Abstract: The fast response multipoint high-precision temperature measurement is often necessary in many dynamical measurement fields and industrial applications. However, limited by the existing electric circuit architecture, either the AC or DC bridges have the shortcoming that the rates or precisions degenerate markedly in the multi-channel scanning mode. To overcome this disadvantage, a round-robin structural low-cost ratiometric resistance thermometer readout based on several commercial 32-bit sigma-delta analogue-… Show more

“…According to the requirements of temperature measurement accuracy and the range of the PT100 resistor resistance, it can be calculated that the equivalent voltage resolution is 4.8 μV with a current excitation of 0.3 mA from (7). It can then be calculated from ( 8) that the noise-free bits of the required ADC device are at least 19 bits.…”

“…The semiconductor cooler controls the temperature of the bidirectional constant current source to improve the precision of temperature measurement [6]. To overcome the shortcomings of speed or accuracy degradation in the multichannel scanning mode, a resistance-proportional temperature acquisition device with a cyclic structure based on a high-precision ADC is used [7]. In addition, there is an active bridge system to ensure the Pt resistor temperature measurement range [8].…”

“…Dedicated sensors for temperature detection. Nowadays, there are many varying types of temperature sensors with different features used in daily life [2,4,7,13,16,17,20,22,23]. The core attribute of these sensors is that they have some parameters that vary linearly with the temperature; any change of the temperature gives rise to variations in parameters.…”

“…Similar to the thermocouple, the resistance thermometer also performs temperature measurement through the temperature related electronic effect. A resistance thermometer is composed of a length of fine wire made of platinum, copper, or any other material that has an accurate resistance-temperature relationship [7,22]. The resistance of the wire varies as the temperature fluctuates.…”
