A Fatty Acid Glycoside from a Marine-Derived Fungus Isolated from Mangrove Plant Scyphiphora hydrophyllacea

Abstract: To study the antimicrobial components from the endophytic fungus A1 of mangrove plant Scyphiphora hydrophyllacea Gaertn. F., a new fatty acid glucoside was isolated by column chromatography from the broth of A1, and its structure was identified as R-3-hydroxyundecanoic acid methylester-3-O-α-l-rhamnopyranoside (1) by spectroscopic methods including 1D and 2D NMR (HMQC, 1H-1H COSY and HMBC) and chemical methods. Antimicrobial assay showed compound 1 possessed modest inhibitory effect on Saphylococcus aureus and… Show more

“…e antibacterial activity of GERM CLEAN (Shanxin, Chengdu, Sichuan, China) on S. mutans was preliminarily tested using the filter paper disc agar diffusion method introduced elsewhere with minor modification [44][45][46][47]. Briefly, 100 μl of mid-exponential phase UA159 suspension was spread on fresh nutrient BHI agar medium plates and dried at room temperature for 5 min.…”

“…(unidentied mangrove, South China Sea coast) was the source of the eremophilane sesquiterpenes 399-401 328 and the known fungal metabolite 07H239-A. 329 A fatty acid glucoside 402 with moderate inhibitory properties against S. aureus and MRSA was obtained from an unidentied endophytic fungus (mangrove leaves Scyphiphora hydrophyllacea, Wenchang, Hainan, China), 330 while investigation of an uniden-tied endophytic fungus (mangrove leaves Avicennia marina, Oman) yielded farinomaleins C-E 403-405 and an isoindoline congener 406, 331 in addition to the known farinomalein B. 332…”

“…ZJ-2008004 and exhibited two Gram-positive bacteria, S. albus and B. subtilis (MIC, 5 and 2.5 μM, respectively) [ 41 ]. New fatty acid glycoside 116 was isolated from Scyphiphora hydrophyllacea A1 and showed inhibitory effects on S. aureus and MRSA (IZ, 3.8 and 4.7 at 500 μg/disk, respectively) [ 86 ].…”
