Abstract:In this work, we have modeled a fundamental part of the defense mechanism of Cyanobacteria against damaging effects of excess light conditions. This mechanism is part of the photoactivation cycle in the Orange Carotenoid Protein (OCP), which involves the separation of protein domains triggered by chromophore translocation. Using carefully designed metadynamics simulations, we have discovered the structural rearrangements along an energetically favorable pathway to the activated state. The structural rearrangem… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
