A first study on the impact of current and future control measures on the spread of COVID-19 in Germany

Abstract: The novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), identified in China at the end of December 2019 and causing the disease COVID-19, has meanwhile led to outbreaks all over the globe, with about 571,700 confirmed cases and about 26,500 deaths as of March 28th, 2020. We present here the preliminary results of a mathematical study directed at informing on the possible application or lifting of control measures in Germany. The developed mathematical models allow to study the spread of COVID-19 among the population in Germany an… Show more

“…Model simulations (Fig. 7a) show that in this scenario a peak Compared to our initial investigations [4], here we have adjusted the baseline scenario by taking into account the further restrictive measures adopted in the last week of March 2020 (reduction of economic activity, restrictions on meetings in public space, and further increased remote working activity). Said enhanced intervention scenario suggests that the number of active cases peaked with about 33,000 infected individuals at the beginning of April 2020 (Fig.…”

“…Mathematical models have been developed to better understand the global spread [37] and the transmission dynamics of COVID-19 for many countries, including Australia [38], France [39], Germany [40], UK [41], and the USA [42,43]. Such models have been used to project the progress of the outbreak and to estimate the impact of control measures on reducing disease burden.…”
