A Formal Behavioral Semantics for TestML

Abstract: TestML is an XML-based language for the exchange of test descriptions in automotive systems design and mainly introduced through the structural definition of an XML schema as an independent exchange format for existing tools and methods covering a wide range of different test technologies. In this paper, we present a rigorous formal behavioral semantics for TestML by means of Abstract State Machines (ASMs). Our semantics is a concise, unambiguous, high-level specification for TestML-based implementations and s… Show more

“…In domains such as avionics [4] and automotive industry the efforts have been made to address the standardization of testing methods and languages, e.g. creating a meta-model for testing avionics systems [4], and the Automotive TestML [5]. Similarly, the Open Test Sequence Exchange Format (OTX) [6] standardized by ISO provides tool-independent XML-based data exchange format [7] for description and documentation of executable test sequences.…”

“…The use of hybrid automata to describe continuous test behavior in the context of embedded systems could be successfully shown in [19]. To support the definition of exact and well-defined mappings between existing test languages and TestML we provided a rigorous formal behavioral semantics for TestML by means of Abstract State Machines (ASMs) [20].…”

“…We mainly emphasize on behavioral aspects and introduce a detailed mapping that maps the TestML constructs defined in section 4.5 to the well-defined behavioral constructs of Simulink/Stateflow. For a concise TestML semantics refer to [20].…”
