This paper shows the general concept and the primary implementation of a pervasive intelligent system for rehabilitation. The scope of this work is to highlight the possibility to join two important research fields, i.e. rehabilitation and ambient assisted living, to enhance the capabilities and independence of disable and aged people. The described system was composed of a ZigBee network, with coordinator, sensor and actuator nodes, able to identify and control patient's activities and send warning to caregiver if requests in warning functionality, and of a software interface to manage the whole network and to monitor patient in outdoor environment

In recent years, the robot development has been fast expanding to many areas such as entertainment, home task, security, medical care, etc. Accordingly, this paper proposes a simple but reliable robot communication interface and local-loop control system based on RS232 and 8051 microprocessor, suitable use for various kinds of robot control. In this proposed scheme, the robot action commands stored in the database using C++ Builder can be transmitted from the Command-Transmission Microprocessor (CTM) and then received by the individual authorized Action-Processing Microprocessor (APM) via RS232. Real-time implementation results are presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed approach in term of robust, simple, flexible and efficient performance.

Nowadays, emergency lights are widely used in public places around the world. For safety consideration, their working conditions must be checked and reported regularly. However, usually the checking is done by humans, which poses difficulty in completing a standard process in a real situation. In this paper, we report the development of a small-sized wireless apparatus for collecting the checking results from an automatic self-checking emergency light. The proposed two-way communication integrates wireless modules with infrared ray and microprocessors (PIC18F4520) between the handset and the emergency lights. The checked results are burned into the microprocessor-based detector in the emergency light. Also, a calendar is installed in the emergency light so that it can be uploaded and adjusted by the microprocessor-based data processor. Consequently, the checking mechanism can be operated at prescheduled times automatically, and the checked outcomes can be retrieved and displayed any time from the handset. Experimental results confirm that the proposed device is superior to other systems in terms of simplicity, cost, and reliability.
