A Framework for Teaching Conceptual Modeling and Metamodeling Based on Bloom’s Revised Taxonomy of Educational Objectives

Abstract: Conceptual modeling and metamodeling are vital parts in computer and information science study programs at tertiary institutions. Currently, teachers are struggling in ensuring that their teaching approach is comprehensive and in identifying application domains that motivate students, and show that the value of models exceeds pure representative means. This paper uses Bloom's revised taxonomy of educational objectives as a foundation to define a framework for comprehensive teaching of conceptual modeling and m… Show more

“…By using RBT, a framework for conceptual modeling and metamodeling of broad teaching, the correlation between these two dimensions [2] predicts the perception of students such types of problems are solved. In this paper [3], the author proposed a generic framework for conceptual modeling and metamodeling of broad teaching. Based on this framework, a teaching case study is developed, and an evaluation of the teaching case helps to upgrade the teaching of these models in the future.…”

“…In the era of 1950s, Benjamin Bloom with a team of educational psychologists gave the concept of academic learning behaviors. 1 To assist the designing and assessment of educational learning, he developed a system with different categories of learning behaviors. The result of this effort produced "Bloom's Taxonomy" which is now a popular entity in field of education.…”

“…The developed environment eases the implementation of PBL courses by allowing the rapid development of graphical modelling and simulation tools for domain-specific modelling languages. Even if the focus of our approach is not on forming the metamodeling skills as it is in [9], the participation of the students to the development of the domainspecific languages deepens and structures the domain-specific knowledge acquired. It also give them the capacity to interact with specialists in metamodeling easing the integration in collectives that will design the architecture of future factories.…”
