A framework map from grapevine V3125 (Vitis vinifera ‘Schiava grossa’ × ‘Riesling’) × rootstock cultivar ‘Börner’ (Vitis riparia × Vitis cinerea) to localize genetic determinants of phylloxera root resistance

Abstract: Grapevine rootstock cultivar 'Börner' is a hybrid of Vitis riparia and Vitis cinerea Arnold that shows high resistance to phylloxera (Daktulosphaira vitifoliae Fitch). To localize the determinants of phylloxera root resistance, the susceptible grapevine V3125 (Vitis vinifera 'Schiava grossa' x 'Riesling') was crossed to 'Börner'. Genetic framework maps were built from the progeny. 235 microsatellite markers were placed on the integrated parental map. They cover 1,155.98 cM on 19 linkage groups with an average … Show more

“…The chromosome 18 map for detection of Rpv3 is in agreement with recently published maps (Marguerit et al 2009;Zhang et al 2009;Blasi et al 2011) as well as with the physical positions of these markers in the genome sequence (http://www.genoscope.cns.fr/cgibin/ggb/vitis/12X/gbrowse/vitis/, http://www.ncbi.nlm. nih.gov).…”

“…Marker order inversions were observed only for closely linked markers. The total length of the map is higher than that published by Zhang et al (2009). The JoinMap Ò 4.1 map for the same chromosome spans 159.9 cM (Online Resource 7).…”

“…Ever since Lodhi et al (1995) constructed the first molecular genetic map of the grapevine, researchers around the world have constructed many high-quality molecular genetic maps using different mapping populations, and conducted QTL analysis for important traits such as fruit aroma (Doligez et al, 2006a;Battilana et al, 2009), Pierce's disease Riaz et al, 2006Riaz et al, , 2008, anti-nematode resistance (Xu et al, 2008), resistance to powdery mildew (Fischer et al, 2004;Akkurt et al, 2007;Zyprian et al, 2009), and antiphylloxera (Zhang et al, 2009).…”

“…During the last two decades, there has been considerable progress in the development of molecular markers in grape. They have been used in quantitative trait loci (QTL) mapping for berry quality traits (Cabezas et al 2006;Costantini et al 2007Costantini et al , 2008Doligez et al 2002Doligez et al , 2006Doligez et al , 2010Fanizza et al 2005;Fischer et al 2004;Fournier-Level et al 2009;Mejía et al 2007) or disease resistance Lowe and Walker 2006;Marguerit et al 2009;Pauquet et al 2001;Riaz et al 2010;Welter et al 2007;Xu et al 2008;Zhang et al 2009). As a result, molecular markers closely linked to major loci responsible for important traits in table grape breeding are currently available.…”
