A fully programmable multi-channel electrotactile stimulator

Abstract: We developed a general purpose electro-tactile stimulator that can configure with computer to generate different pattern of current waveforms. Four independent channel are provided in this system. Additionally, for one time programming by computer and multiple use by other devices, digital I/Os are embedded which serve as trigger input and output. User is being able to turn on or off each channel online without interrupting other channels and intensity of the main channel is modifiable online too. Sweeping (sc… Show more

“…The effect of electrotactile feedback depends on the parameters of electrical stimulation, including intensity ( Alotaibi et al, 2022 ), frequency ( Farina et al, 2021 ; Graczyk et al, 2022 ), pulse width ( Yang et al, 2012 ), spatial distribution ( Rafiei et al, 2014 ), and temporal distribution ( Nataletti et al, 2020 ). For multi-DoF intelligent prosthetics, the stimulation of multiple channels is more suitable for spatiotemporal encoding than that of a single channel because continuous stimulation causes skin adaptation ( Buma et al, 2007 ) and limits the interpretation of changes in stimulation ( Nataletti et al, 2022 ).…”
