“…In the context of OW/OB, EA can manifest in a number of ways, such as avoidance of physical activity in an attempt to avoid unpleasant physical sensations, unpleasant thoughts about one's body shape or size, or fears of judgment from others; eating as a means to avoid or suppress unpleasant emotions; eating in response to cravings or food cues when not physically hungry rather than tolerating distressing cravings; and avoidance of people, places, and situations that remind one of his or her weight (Ciarrochi, Sahdra, Marshall, Parker, & Horwath, 2014;Forman & Butryn, 2015;Gregg, Lillis, & Schmidt, 2015). Thus, the goal of ABTs for OW/OB is to help clients develop the willingness to experience undesirable thoughts (e.g., "I'm fat") and feelings (e.g., negative affect, certain bodily sensations), and to behave in accordance with their personal values (e.g., engaging in physical activity as means to living an active lifestyle) in spite of those internal experiences.…”
