A Further Comprehensive Review on the Phytoconstituents from the Genus Erythrina

Abstract: Erythrina is a significant source of phytoconstituents. The aim of this review is to solicitude of classification, synthesis, and phytochemicals with biological activities of Erythrina. In our previous review on this genus (Hussain et. al., 2016a) fifteen species (Erythrina addisoniae, E. caribeae, E. indica, E. lattisima, E. melanacantha, E. mildbraedii, E. poeppigiama, E. stricta, E. subumbrans, E. veriagata, E. vespertilio, E. velutina, E. zeberi, E. zeyheri and E. americana) have been studied and 155 molec… Show more

“…From the results of the phytochemical analysis, the ethanolic stem bark extract of Alstonia was found to contain important compounds including tannin, flavonoid, steroid, phenols, alkaloid, saponin, glycoside and terpenoid. The presence of phytoconstituents in plants, including alkaloids, have been reported by other studies [17][18][19][20]. Nature is a major resource of medicinal plants which are used for treating man [21][22][23][24][25][26].…”

“…2,3 Medicinal plants are well known for their antiinflammatory, analgesic, and anti-arrhythmic diterpenoid alkaloids and non-alkaloidal chemicals (fatty acids, flavonoids, phenolic acids, phenylpropanoids, terpenoids, polysaccharides, and steroids). [4][5][6][7] A. heterophyllum is an important medicinal plant distributed between 2800-4500 m and found in Alpine regions of the Himalaya. 8 The root tubers of A. heterophyllum are used as traditional medicine for various therapeutic actions (antiarthritic and anodyne).…”

“…Nature is a significant resource for medicinal plants. The medicinal plants along with elucidated chemical compounds having pharmacological activities are using as traditional medicinal agents in the prevention and management of different diseases for many years (Hussain 2020(Hussain , 2019a(Hussain , 2019b(Hussain , 2018. These medicinal plants having varied curative properties like anti-microbial, anticancer, antiinflammatory, anti-plasmodial, and anti-oxidant potentials (Hussain et al, , 2011(Hussain et al, , 2010Billah et al, 2013;Ismail et al, 2010).…”
