A gas outburst prevention and control strategy for single thick coal seams with high outburst risk: A case study of Hudi Coal Mine in Qinshui Basin

Abstract: Coal and gas outburst is one of the most harmful natural disaster in coal mine production. The frequency and scope of outburst are closely related to the metamorphic degree of coal seam, the depth of coal seam, and the complexity of geological structure. In general, the use of traditional along‐seam borehole or cross‐seam borehole can meet the needs of gas control. However, for the coal seams with high outburst risk, these methods fail to meet the demands of high‐yield and high‐efficiency coal recovery as well… Show more

“…When simulating the evolution of the stress field of the composite structure, the approach is divided into two steps that are carried out successively. After several trial calculations, when the simulated calculation value at the well location is close to the measured value, the [62][63][64][65] Step I simulates the self-weight stress field in the stage of pressure from the overlying strata. A vertical stress σ V is applied to the top of the model as a load, and the vertical displacement of the bottom surface of the model is fixed.…”

“…Coal and gas outbursts are some of the most harmful natural disasters in coal mine production (Wang et al, 2020a;Li et al, 2020;Kong et al, 2022). However, regional verification is the last link in the regional four-in-one comprehensive prevention measures for gas outbursts and is a significant checkpoint for controlling and preventing coal and gas outburst accidents (State Administration of Coal Mine Safety, 2019).…”

“…Coal mine gas (CMG) (mainly methane) produced during coal mining is considered clean energy in recent years [3,4]. However, coal mine gas is also deemed as a major threat to the safety of coal mine [5,6]. Currently, coal and gas outburst mines still occupy a large proportion of China's production and under construction mines.…”
