A generic model for smart house remote control systems with software and hardware simulators

Abstract: In this paper, a generic model for smart house remote control systems is proposed, implemented and tested using the software and hardware simulators presented with it. Smart house systems currently available lack a generic model for neither supporting different remote control modules nor standard testing beds. The comprehensive model presented in this paper supports both web and mobile remote access along with hardware and software simulator for testing and parameter estimation before actually building the hou… Show more

“…However, little attention has been given to the simplicity of design, ease of manufacturing, affordability, and adoption. Various studies have proposed different approaches to home automation, including cost-effective solutions using Visual Basic and Microsoft speech recognition software [58,59], Zigbee-based systems [60], and the development of dedicated web pages and servers to control home devices and appliances over the internet [61][62][63][64][65]. However, these approaches have certain disadvantages, such as increased energy consumption and expensive infrastructure installation [62][63][64][65].…”

“…Moreover, in [16], authors developed new simulator based on the context information of smart homes by focusing on the main goal of context-aware system design. In [3,[17][18][19]] also is presented a multipurpose simulator based on the scenario for the smart house atmosphere which again is an object oriented one and is capable of defining various sensors and placing them on the floor plan of the building. The user is also able to sketch the plan of the house.…”

“…A similar system was proposed in Caytiles and Park where the actions are coordinated by the home agent running on a PC. Other papers such as [15][16][17][18] also presented internet-controlled systems consisting of a dedicated web server, database and a web page for interconnecting and managing the devices [14]. These systems utilize a PC which leads to a direct increase in cost and power consumption.…”
