A Genetic Algorithm Based Hybrid Approach for Reliability-Redundancy Optimization Problem of a Series System with Multiple-Choice

Abstract: The goal of this paper is to introduce an application of hybrid algorithm in reliability optimization problems for a series system with parallel redundancy and multiple choice constraints to maximize the system reliability subject to system budget and also to minimize the system cost subject to minimum level of system reliability. Both the problems are solved by using penalty function technique for dealing with the constraints and hybrid algorithm. In this algorithm, the well-known real coded Genetic Algorithm… Show more

“…The graphs comparison proved the superiority of the proposed algorithm. Authors of this article would encourage the readers to apply optimization techniques such as gravitational search algorithm described in Bhunia et al (2017). Also, the scope of applying neural and fuzzy as described in Joshi (2016) and, Begum and Dohi (2018) can be referred.…”

“…Amrutkar and Kamalja (2017) discussed the various reliability measures, and also reviewed the developments in the study of various important measures of popular reliability systems. Bhunia et al (2017) introduced an application of the hybrid algorithm in reliability optimization problems for a series system. Also, a lot of work has been done in the field of cloud computing: Sabahi (2012) reviewed the issues and challenges of cloud computing's reliability, availability and security, and also examined the intrusion detection method to improve cloud computing's reliability, availability and serviceability (RAS).…”

“…In the last two decades, metaheuristics that are often inspired by nature have become very popular among the scientific community . On the other hand, reliability optimization is present in almost all applications of modern day engineering and industry . Reliability optimization problem of complex systems, like reliability‐cost optimization problems for an NPP, is highly nonlinear in nature, and solutions to that kind of complex problems are NP‐hard in nature.…”

[16][17][18][19] Reliability optimization problem of complex systems, like reliability-cost optimization problems for an NPP, is highly nonlinear in nature, and solutions to that kind of complex problems are NP-hard in nature. Conventional optimization methods fail to obtain the global optimal solution for those problems due to the nonlinearity combined with multiple local extreme values.…”
