A gold nanoparticles coated unclad single mode fiber-optic sensor based on localized surface plasmon resonance

Abstract: In the last few decays, the fiber-optic was employed in the field of sensing because of its benefits in contrast to other types of sensors such as small size, easy to fabricate, high response, and flexibility. In this study, unclad single mode fiber-optic sensor is proposed to operate at 650 nm wavelength. COMSOL Multiphysics 5.1 finite element method (FEM) is used to design the sensor and tested it theoretically. The middle portion of the fiber cladding is removed and replaced by gold nanoparticles (Au NPs) o… Show more

“…Polystyrene (PS) is a polymer that used extensively for food packaging. Styrene within Polystyrene possesses the capability for transferring the food, Cao at al [3]. If the polystyrene is exposed to the ultraviolet (UV) irradiation in the presence of air, it experiences a fast yellowing and a slow embrittlement [4].…”

“…The average particle size was estimated and found to be 18, 22, 28, and 34 nm for samples synthesised at laser fluences of 1.3, 1.6, 2, and 2.2 J cm −2 , respectively. The origin of the particle agglomeration effect is the high surface energy of the nanoparticles and van der Waals attractive force [61,62].…”

“…where hν is the incident light photon energy, A is a constant, and α is the absorption coefficient. The optical bandgap energy was determined by plotting (hν) 2 versus (hν) [61][62][63][64][65][66][67][68][69][70][71][72], as illustrated in figure 5(b). The extrapolation of the linear section of the curve to the (αhν) 2 = 0 point gives the bandgap energy, which is found to be in the range of (4.25-4.9) eV depending on the laser fluence.…”

“…The physical characteristics of gallium nitride (GaN), which include strong thermal conductivity, a broad and direct band gap, and low compressibility, have attracted a lot of attention recently. It is an appealing material for use in optical devices because of these qualities [1][2][3][4]. GaN technology can operate under challenging conditions [5,6].…”
