“…To date, little is known about glycosylation in the avian reproductive tract and, of those few studies available, none has traced changes in glycan expression along its total length from infundibulum to vagina. Mostly PAS and Alcian Blue staining have been used, which only distinguish between neutral and acidic or sulphated mucopolysaccharides (Aitken and Johnston 1963; Johnston et al., 1963; Madekurozwa, 2008; Madekurozwa & Mpango, 2020; Muwazi et al., 1982; Robinson et al 1968; Wyburn et al., 1970, Wyburn et al., 1973; Saber et al., 2009; Sharaf et al., 2012; Sharaf et al., 2013; Wani et al., 2017), but reports of mucin localization have been sketchy and often incomplete. Lectin histochemistry performed on resin semi‐thin sections allows the localization of glycans to cells and their organelles with excellent resolution, maintaining the structural identity of the tissues, and enabling the identification of all classes of glycan to particular cell types.…”
