COVID-19 has impacted research worldwide, with many researchers turning to online methods. While online and co-creation research methods are well established, there are no instructional articles or guides for researchers aiming to conduct online co-creation workshops. Such workshops can provide quality data and are increasingly used. This methods paper addresses this gap by outlining the steps involved in conducting online co-creation workshops. Using the TruSTFood sustainability food labelling study as an example, this paper provides instructions and considerations for researchers. It serves as a guide for those interested in or new to this area and can be used to transfer existing research online owing to social distancing and the pandemic or new research beyond.

BackgroundIn Palliative Care (PC), family and close people are an essential part of provision of care. They assume highly complex tasks for which they are not prepared, with considerable physical, psychological, social and economic impact. Informal Caregivers (ICs) often falter in the final stage of life and develop distress, enhancing emotional burden and complicated grief. The lack of available and accessible in-person counselling resources is often reported by ICs. Online resources can promote early access to help and support for patient-IC dyads in palliative care. The primary aim of this research is to co-design, develop and test the feasibility of the Help2Care-PAL mHealth app that addresses the needs of ICs of palliative patients cared for at home. This Digital Health Intervention (DHI) in palliative care will be used for education, symptom management, communication and decision-making, to enhance Quality of Life (QoL) of patients and ICs, fostering anticipatory grief and the reach and efficiency of services.MethodsThis study will use an iterative co-design process and convergent mixed-methods design, following the MORECare consensus for developing a complex intervention. Construction of the DHI will follow four main phases: (I) a needs assessment (a cross-sectional survey, individual interviews with ICs and focus groups with professionals with community palliative care experience); (II) design and co-production of mHealth materials and interventions to support ICs; (III) the development of a mHealth app; and (IV) usability and feasibility of the mHealth app. The Help2Care-PAL platform seeks to build resources from the perspectives and needs of both family dyads and nursing professionals working in the field of community palliative care. User-centeredness will be ensured by the active participation of patient-IC dyads and professionals of the palliative care community.DiscussionThis mixed-method study will offer new insights on needs and expectations of patient-IC dyads and nurses in community palliative care regarding caregiving preparedness and online health resources. Through the implementation of an adaptive digital tool, we aim to improve access to palliative care family support, which is highly linked with the wellbeing of patients and especially new ICs.

Introduction: Learning clinical judgment in initial nursing training is essential for nursing practice. Clinical judgment integrates previous clinical experiences, knowledge and skills development from multiple learning modalities. As a clinical context with varied situations, clinical teaching provides opportunities for the development of clinical judgment that is indispensable for decision-making in the care process. The pandemic lead to changes in nursing education, among them, the limitation of students' access to clinical teaching places. Likely causing some interference in the learning of clinical judgment. Goals: To describe the importance of learning clinical judgment in clinical teaching and to identify the factors that interfere with this learning, during a pandemic. Methods: A qualitative, exploratory, and descriptive study, whose data collection strategy was an online focus group with 6 students in the last clinical teaching of the Degree in Nursing. Data analysis was performed by content analysis according to Bardin using webQDA® software. Results: The “Essence for Action” category, with 15 registration units, emerged as the most valued in the “Contributions of Clinical Judgment Learning to Clinical Teaching” dimension. The category “Learning Environments”, with 23 recording units, was the most valued in the “Factors that Interfere with Clinical Judgment Learning” dimension. Conclusions: Clinical judgment is considered by nursing student as fundamental for individualized nursing intervention. It appears that the context in which the student's clinical experience took place had a great impact on the learning of clinical judgment, with the pandemic being considered a challenging factor in the context of learning.
