Abstract:Background: Bacteria of the Borrelia burgdorferi sensu lato (s.l.) complex are the causative agents of Lyme borreliosis. These pathogens are maintained in transmission cycles between tick vectors of the Ixodes ricinus–persulcatus species complex and vertebrate reservoir hosts.
