A high monocyte-to-lymphocyte ratio predicts poor prognosis in patients with radical cystectomy for bladder cancer

Abstract: Background: At present, it is well known that many hemogram parameters were related to the prognosis of a variety of cancers. Among them, monocyte-to-lymphocyte ratio (MLR), neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio (PLR) have attracted more and more attention. The purpose of this study was to investigate the prognostic value of MLR, NLR, PLR, especially MLR, in patients with bladder cancer (BC) treated with radical cystectomy (RC).Methods: Between January 2009 and October 2018, 203… Show more

“…The variation in RHOJ expression across different immune cell populations indicates its potential impact on the tumor immune microenvironment, highlighting its significance in cancer immunotherapy. Notably, patients undergoing radical cystectomy for bladder cancer with a high monocyte to lymphocyte ratio are likely to have a poorer prognosis [ 45 , 46 ]. Overexpression of RHOJ can elevate the mRNA and protein levels of the pro-inflammatory vascular cell adhesion molecule 1 (VCAM-1) and intercellular adhesion molecule 1 (ICAM-1) in endothelial cells (ECs).…”

“…The monocyte-to-lymphocyte ratio (MLR) is a novel inflammatory biomarker that integrates the effects of both inflammatory markers. It has high predictive and prognostic value in various cancers, including hepatocellular carcinoma, gastrointestinal stromal tumor, endometrial cancer, bladder cancer, and breast cancer (Cananzi et al, 2019;Shi et al, 2020;Song et al, 2021;Tiainen et al, 2021;Wang Q. et al, 2022). To our interest, the significance of MLR in PCa has also been confirmed.…”
