“…For the analysis of steels EDTA may be added to prevent this hydrolysis and also to deal with other interferences. [10,11] It is essential that the reduction of Fe (III) is carried out before the addition of EDTA since it forms a stable complex with iron (III) that cannot easily be reduced. The presence of EDTA in solutions of pH>9.0 causes problems due to the formation of aluminium hydroxo EDTA complexes that only react slowly with 8-hydroxyquinoline or with 8-hydroxyquinoline-5-sulphonate, full complexation required 1 and 2 h respectively.…”
