A highly sensitive spectrophotometric determination of micro amounts of vanadium(V) in environmental and alloy samples by using 3,4-dihydroxybenzaldehydeisonicotinoylhydrazone (3,4-DHBINH)

Abstract: 3, 4-Dihydroxybenzaldehydeisonicotinoylhydrazone was prepared, characterized with spectral analyses and used for developing a new method for the simple, sensitive and rapid spectrophotometric determination of vanadium(V) which gives maximum absorbance at wave length 360 nm. The metal ion gives a yellow colored complex with 3, 4-DHBINH in acetate buffer of pH 5.5 with 1:1 (metal:ligand) composition. The method obeys Beer's law in the range 0.5-5.3 microg mL(-1) of vanadium(V). The molar absorptivity and Sandell… Show more

“…A new simple, sensitive, and inexpensive method based on vanadium-Sal-BH complex was developed for the determination of vanadium in some environmental, biological, soil, food, and pharmaceutical samples. Compared with other methods [16][17][18][19][20]41,42] in the literature Table 1, the proposed method has several remarkable analytical characteristics:…”

“…This paper reports its use in a very sensitive, highly specific spectrophotometric method for the trace determination of vanadium. The method possesses distinct advantages over existing methods [16][17][18][19][20] with respect to sensitivity, selectivity, range of determination, simplicity, speed, pH /acidity range, thermal stability, accuracy, precision and ease of operation (Table 1). The literature survey, it reveals that the existing methods are lengthy, time-consuming, pH dependent, and in most of the above-mentioned methods, the interference was high.…”

“…22,23 Spectrophotometry is a detection technique widely employed for vanadium determination and to improve sensitivity, analytical procedures have been implemented employing preconcentration steps including solvent extraction, 5,10 solid phase extraction 7,12 and solid phase spectrophotometry. 16 Analytical procedures carried out manually are very time consuming and produce large volumes of waste 2,5,[7][8][9]12,17,18 and as a result, additional work is required to dispose the waste appropriately in order to minimize the impairment of the environmental sustainability. Analytical procedures for vanadium determination have also been implemented employing the ow injection analysis (FIA) process, thus allowing throughput improvement.…”

“…7,8,16,17 Vanadium in aqueous media may occur in the oxidation states from (II) to (V), but the forms V(IV) and V(V) are the most stable. The form V(V) is considered more toxic than V(IV), 2,10,12,18 thereby vanadium has both benecial and toxic characteristics, while a close relationship is maintained between the essential concentration and levels of toxicity. In this sense, development of analytical procedures for its determination has attracted much interest.…”
