A Holistic ICT Solution to Improve Matching between Supply and Demand over the Water Supply Distribution Chain

Abstract: While many water management tools exist, these systems are not usually interconnected and therefore cannot communicate between one another, preventing Integrated Water Resources Management to be fully achieved. This paper presents the solution proposed by WatERP project * where a novel solution enables better matching between water supply and demand from holistic perspective. Subsystems that control the production, management and consumption of water will be interconnected through both information architecture… Show more

“…With the growing demand reaching ecological and economic limits, the need for innovative water management becomes clear [7]. To secure water supplies in the future, there is an urgent need to transition towards a more water-smart society and develop water-wise solutions to improve efficiency, reduce consumption and preserve resources [8].…”

“…Water demand management programs, such as retrofitting households with water-efficient devices and appliances, in remote communities on islands and in isolated mainland townships, was investigated by Beal et al (2016). Better matching between water supply and demand was studied from a holistic perspective by Anzaldi (2014) who showed that near real-time knowledge on water supply and demand, from sources to users, across geographic and organizational scales, ensures maximum usability of water. Water management and reuse as parts of industrial activities were considered as well.…”
