A Hybrid MCDM Approach to Transshipment Port Selection

Abstract: A B S T R A C TPort selection is an intrinsic supply-chain problem that has substantial impact on development of local economies. Shipping business environment developed into complex system where decision making is derived from uncertain and incomplete data. In this study we present a conceptual integrated Multi-Criteria decision solution to transshipment port selection problem based on Best-Worst MCdM and Artificial Bee Colony Algorithm. Through literature review and expert analysis, 50 relevant criteria have… Show more

“…Also, it is not possible to do a pairwise comparison with the analytical hierarchy process (Lu et al, 2019). Sumner and Rudan (2018) support this remark in the Transshipment Port Selection study and defends that the Best Worst Method is much better than AHP in a pairwise comparison (Sumner and Rudan, 2018). Tsai et al (2018) propose that the AHP method has low performance in the analyses in which dependent variables and feedback mechanisms are used.…”

“…Sumner and Rudan have tried to choose a transshipment port in pairwise compassion with Best Worst Method. They have preferred BWS instead of AHP (Sumner and Rudan, 2018). These and similar papers tried to decide the most efficient management or company in the maritime industry.…”

“…The opportunity to form a strategy to build a transshipment port in Sabah includes the potential for capturing the highest economic value for its activities; this will enhance economic growth and development of Sabah (Sumner & Rudan, 2018;Jiang et al, 2014). Another opportunity is to handle higher port throughput in terms of volume to take advantage of the existing maritime Silk Road (Duchatel & Duplaix, 2018).…”

“…Another opportunity is to handle higher port throughput in terms of volume to take advantage of the existing maritime Silk Road (Duchatel & Duplaix, 2018). The threats to form a strategy to build a transshipment port in Sabah include lack of technological advancement to build a modern and sophisticated port infrastructure; which, influences the port activities because MLO and other port users rely on a sophisticated and innovative mode of transportation (Sumner & Rudan, 2018;Darayi, Barker, & Santos;. Moreover, laws and regulations by the federal government of Malaysia that do not recognize the need Sabah has to build a transshipment port, can impact the influx of economic activities in both Sabah and Malaysia (Duchatel & Duplaix, 2018).…”
