A large cavernous malformation of the third ventricle floor: A case report

Abstract: Suprasellar and third ventricular region cavernous malformations originating from the floor of the third ventricle are extremely rare. We report a case of third ventricular cavernous malformation arising from the ventricle floor in a 24-year-old woman who presented with short-term memory loss and disorientation. Computed tomography revealed a suprasellar mass with calcification in the posterior chiasmatic region. T2-weighted magnetic resonance imaging revealed a mass with heterogeneous intensity and without hy… Show more

“…38 Other expected complications following surgical resection of third ventricular CM using various techniques include adrenal insufficiency, memory deficits, and intraventricular hemorrhage. 24,33,[39][40][41][42][43][44][45] Although the risk of venous thromboembolism (VTE) is low in patients undergoing endoscopic endonasal procedures (0.77%), 46 our patient experienced pulmonary embolism 4 days postoperatively despite being on an appropriate dose of a prophylactic anticoagulant. This is explained by the presence of risk factors for VTE, such as obesity and smoking.…”
