“…Individuals experiencing depression may hold negative self-perceptions and view social interactions unfavorably. Consequently, they may be more inclined to seek social connections and a sense of belonging online, perceiving such interactions as easier, less critical, and generating fewer negative emotions [27]. This aligns with the theory of compensatory Internet use [28], which suggests that individuals may employ the Internet as a maladaptive coping mechanism for real-world challenges.…”

“…It can be seen that the use of LPA has increased considerably by applied researchers in the educational and social sciences in recent years (Ferguson et al, 2020). LPA is frequently used in modeling latent profiles/classes related to psychological structures (Bouckenooghe et al, 2019;Ferguson & Hull, 2019;Kim & Lee, 2021;Kökçam et al, 2022;Merz & Roesch, 2011;Wang et al, 2019;Wei et al, 2021;Yalçın et al, 2022) and in defining latent profile characteristics and examining the properties of those profiles in other fields (Bondjers et al, 2018;Grunschel et al, 2013;Lehmann et al, 2019;Saritepeci et al, 2022;Stanley et al, 2017;Wade et al, 2006;Williams et al, 2016). This current study presents a brief introduction and application of LPA for researchers interested in exploring unobserved heterogeneity and integrating this type of analysis into their research, providing a helpful guide to LPA's model requirements and reporting practices, and focusing on the practical points in the analysis, proposes approaches supported by the current methodology research, and directs the researchers to additional resources for further investigation.…”
