A long-term retrospective analysis of the haemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome epidemic from 2005 to 2021 in Jiangxi Province, China

Abstract: Jiangxi is one of the provinces in China most seriously affected by the haemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) epidemic. The aim of this paper was to systematically explore the HFRS epidemic in Jiangxi from the perspective of Hantavirus (HV) prevalence in rodents and humans and virus molecular characteristics. Individual information on all HFRS cases in Jiangxi from 2005 to 2021 was extracted from the China Information System for Disease Control and Prevention. All S and M fragment sequences of the Seou… Show more

“…Rodents carry Yersinia pestis ( Eaton et al., 2023 ), Hantaviruses (HanVs) ( Tang et al., 2023 ), and Leptospira ( Kavela et al., 2023 ), which cause plague, hemorrhagic fever, and leptospirosis, respectively. Moreover, several important zoonotic viruses carried by rodents are members of the Hantaviridae ( Wu et al., 2018a ), Flaviviridae ( Smith et al., 2016 ), Arenaviridae ( Wood et al., 2021 ), Reoviridae , Picornaviridae , and Togaviridae ( Liu and Zhang, 2023 ). Many of these family viruses include multiple agents associated with acute gastroenteritis or febrile illnesses that can cause severe diseases in humans.…”
