“…Although a brief course of treatment with a phenothiazine may be sufficient for the patient with an acute emotional illness, a patient who has been seriously ill for many years may not show significant improvement until the drug has been given for a year or longer (1). This study demonstrates that treatment with even moderate dosages of thioridazine effected discharge of almost one‐fourth of these chronically regressed patients, and led to major improvement with good adjustment to the hospital setting in a like number.…”
