“…It is possible, for example, that experiences related to the pandemic situation altered the role of specific components of BSC. For instance, a recent longitudinal study suggests that since the beginning of the pandemic, individuals are more attentive to signals coming from their internal organs compared to a time before the COVID-19 outbreak [77]. Such increase of attention towards visceral information could be beneficial to the maintenance of individuals' well-being.…”

“… Suzuki et al (2021) and Vabba et al (2023) explored the maladaptive aspects of IA during the pandemic and reported significant associations between the Noticing subscale and maladaptive behaviors. Anxiety demonstrated positive correlations with Emotional Awareness and Body Listening, suggesting nuanced interactions between anxiety and IA.…”

“…Studies on Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) have consistently reported low scores on Trusting, Attention Regulation, and Not-Worrying, suggesting that interoceptive connection is impaired in depression . Anxiety demonstrated positive correlations with Emotional Awareness and Body Listening, suggesting nuanced interactions between anxiety and IA.…”

“…While more investigation is necessary, it seems that Trusting is also one of the facets with regulatory implications, perhaps due to the way that the body is perceived as a reference point for grounding, or some other body trusting‐mediated process for regulation (e.g., returning to the sensations of one's own body as an appraisal of control via grounding). A longitudinal study of interoception changes from before the COVID‐19 pandemic, during the lockdown phase, and 4 months after the lockdown showed that these factors for the regulatory components of the MAIA predicted psychological health and well‐being (Vabba et al, 2023). Together, these findings extend the validity evidence of the MAIA factors as IATs through trait coherence with EC, particularly for the factors that contain regulatory elements.…”

“…However, this model lacked a factor of Self‐Regulation, which prevented us from examining its association with EC. Self‐Regulation is one of the regulatory aspects of the MAIA and a clinically important variable (e.g., Vabba et al, 2023) indicating self‐control of pain and physically unpleasant sensations. Furthermore, the Not Distracting factor was unreliable as in previous studies (e.g., Borneman et al, 2014; Mehling et al, 2012).…”
