A Low Collision and High Throughput Data Collection Mechanism for Large-Scale Super Dense Wireless Sensor Networks

Abstract: Super dense wireless sensor networks (WSNs) have become popular with the development of Internet of Things (IoT), Machine-to-Machine (M2M) communications and Vehicular-to-Vehicular (V2V) networks. While highly-dense wireless networks provide efficient and sustainable solutions to collect precise environmental information, a new channel access scheme is needed to solve the channel collision problem caused by the large number of competing nodes accessing the channel simultaneously. In this paper, we propose a sp… Show more

“…f (y, p) = 1 Packet received 0 Packet lost (10) Note that if f (y, p) = 1 stands for all collection rounds and all source nodes, result of equation 9 becomes the theoretical throughput upper bound. PRR is defined as the possibility that data packets can be successfully delivered to the sink node without packet retransmission, computed based on Equation 11.…”

“…However, there is a dilemma between high throughput and energy efficiency. Most existing works that are specifically designed for high throughput data collection are weak in energy efficiency [9][10][11]. There is a balance point issue between high throughput and power consumption.…”

“…Large number of nodes takes part in the transmission of data at the same time in dense WSN networks that causes serious collision problem. In [8] a channel scheme was used, in which potential collision avoidance mechanism is based on the directional data transmission. A randomaccess method based on the space time suggested in this scheme.…”

“…Previous works have shown numerous efforts has been taken to find the key to collision avoidance. For instance, Chunyang Lei [13] has found that the Carrier Sense Multiple Access with Collision Avoidance (CSMA/CA) based network failed to avoid interference in WSNs efficiently and hence provided a new strategy to avoid such collision by a space-time random access technique…”
