A Low-Cost Current Sensor Based on Semi-Cylindrical Magnetostrictive Composite

Abstract: This paper presents the design, fabrication, and characterization of a compact current sensor based on magnetostrictive composites and resistance strain gauges. Firstly, we designed three kinds of current sensors with different structures, in which the shape of the giant magnetostrictive material (GMM) was cuboid, cylindrical, and semi-cylindrical. A set of finite element method (FEM) simulations were performed to qualitatively guide the design of three prototypes of the current sensor. It was determined that … Show more

“…In [10], a current sensor based on fluxgate technique is proposed for measuring nonlinear currents of arbitrary waveforms and linear currents from DC to several kilohertz. However, in practical measurements, this current sensor based on weak magnetic field detection is highly susceptible to external magnetic field interference [11][12][13], which is not considered Energies 2022, 15, 8489 2 of 14 in the above literature. In order to resist the external magnetic field interference, a lot of research has been conducted by domestic and foreign scholars, among which some references [14][15][16] proposed a circular array to improve measurement accuracy and reduce external interference, and experimentally proved the suppression effect of this method on the external magnetic field.…”
