We present Scratchy-a modular, lightweight robot built for low budget competition attendances. Its base is mainly built with standard 4040 aluminium profiles and the robot is driven by four mecanum wheels on brushless DC motors. In combination with a laser range finder we use estimated odometry -which is calculated by encoders -for creating maps using a particle filter. A RGB-D camera is utilized for object detection and pose estimation. Additionally, there is the option to use a 6-DOF arm to grip objects from an estimated pose or generally for manipulation tasks. The robot can be assembled in less than one hour and fits into two pieces of hand luggage or one bigger suitcase. Therefore, it provides a huge advantage for student teams that participate in robot competitions like the European Robotics League or RoboCup. Thus, this keeps the funding required for participation, which is often a big hurdle for student teams to overcome, low. Increasing Students' Interest With Low-Cost CellBots

Abstract-This paper introduces the use of a flexible and affordable educational robot specifically developed for the practical experimentation inherent to technological disciplines. The robot has been designed to be reconfigurable and extendible, serving as an experimental platform across several undergraduate courses. As most students have a mobile cell phone, this was used as the main control computer for the so-called CellBot, thus avoiding any need to deal with the details of microcontrollers or other embedded computing devices. Assessment results are also presented, based on a pre-and post-survey of student opinion administered to 204 science and engineering students from several universities. Among the conclusions are that 83% of the students prefer to use these low-cost robots as tools to improve their learning of the theory in several disciplines, and 71% of the students stated that they prefer to have their own robot to experiment with, instead of using a didactic kit loaned to them by the university.

Abstract-The Information and Communication Technologies provide economically feasible and effective means to assist individuals with kinetic disabilities in numerous activities concerning educational purposes. As the technology is increasingly used in everyday environments, an early response of the existing methods to teach the Physical Sciences to individuals with kinetic disabilities is our innovative system. The work presented in this article is part of the "Smart and Adaptable Information System for Supporting Physics Experiments in a Robotic Laboratory" (SAIS-PEaRL) research project.
