A Mapping of Marine Biodiversity Research Trends and Collaboration in the East Asia Region from 1996–2015

Abstract: Many countries define policies to manage oceans and coastal areas in order to utilize marine ecosystems strategically. When we reviewed the strategies and policies of various countries in relation to ocean sustainability, we found that biodiversity preservation is a key issue for policies related to sustainable marine development. We investigated the research trends and collaboration status of China, Japan and South Korea regarding marine biodiversity through the analysis of scientific articles using bibliomet… Show more

“…A wide variety of methods and approaches have been used to construct science maps. The VOS viewer (http://www.vosviewer.com) [27] is a common tool and has been used to map many different domains such as biodiversity [28], the environmental footprint [29], demolition waste management [30], computer graphics [13], entrepreneurship [31], Alzheimer's disease [32], depression related diseases [33], natural disaster research [34], climate change [35], Mediterranean studies [36] and finally the topic of science mapping itself [37]. A more recent tool-'Bibliometrix'-is available as an R-script for science mapping [38] and the code can be downloaded and modified to fit specific needs.…”
